Let's Talk Turmeric
If you consider yourself an adventurer who loves exploration and learning, then you know life is all about adapting. Whether you call it changing, pivoting, or something else entirely, life requires adapting to new seasons and situations. Buying a new home? Moving to a new city? Starting a new job? Insert change here. The only constant in life is change, but the good news is that no matter what life throws at you there is probably an adaptogen for that to help you bend when the wind blows, go with the flow and take life in stride. (You get the picture).
Okay, go ahead and say it with us now, adaptogens [uh·dap·tuh·jenz]. These are a type of non-toxic plant that has been shown to help people’s bodies adapt to imbalances and stress, hence the name adaptogens. Various adaptogens can balance and provide support to certain parts of the body or body systems, especially when you have a lot going on.
We are all about ancient modalities and natural healing, after all, we think age-old practices merrily mixed with modern delights is where it’s at. This is why we curate high-quality adaptogens in all of our beverages. From ashwagandha to hibiscus to Lion’s Mane to holy basil. Heck, we even include functional fungi FTW, but what about another popular adaptogen like turmeric? Grab a kombucha and let’s dive in and talk about all things turmeric.
Turmeric and Its Benefits
Turmeric (tur·mr·uhk) comes from the turmeric plant and contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which contains antioxidant properties that can be beneficial to the body. Best known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric may also help to fight depression and free radicals, improve memory, and lessen pain.
Turmeric is mostly used as a spice and is what gives curry its vibrant yellow-orange color, which you can often detect in Indian dishes like chicken, rice, and roasted vegetables. Turmeric can also be used in a variety of recipes including hummus, scrambled eggs, smoothies, soups, and stews. It can even be baked into brownies and muffins, mixed into lattes, and taken in a supplement form if that is more of your thing.
As delicious as all of these options are, we like to consume our turmeric in our kombuchas.
